On July 3rd, as the construction of the domes was completed for the five largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks in the world, the main structure of China National Offshore Oil Corporation"s (CNOOC) Jinwan "Green Energy Port" Phase II project in Zhuhai was finished.

Once completed, this project will significantly enhance the peak shaving and supply capabilities of natural gas in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the southern region of China.
Located in the Jinwan District of Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, the Jinwan "Green Energy Port" Phase I project was put into operation in 2013, with an annual processing capacity of 3.5 million tons of LNG. The Phase II project, a critical infrastructure project for China"s petroleum and natural gas industry, commenced construction in June 2021. It includes supporting facilities and five LNG tanks, each with a storage capacity of 270,000 cubic meters, making them the largest LNG tanks in the world.
The 270,000 cubic meter LNG tanks used in the project were designed with independent core technology by CNOOC"s CGTank. Each tank reaches a height of 65.7 meters, equivalent to the height of the Beijing National Stadium "Bird"s Nest." One tank can accommodate three C919 passenger planes.
The construction work of the Jinwan "Green Energy Port" Phase II project is enormous, with a concrete volume of 45,000 cubic meters per tank, which is enough to fill 20 standard Olympic swimming pools.
The project is located in an area with high seismic design requirements, making it one of the LNG storage tank projects with the most complex geological conditions and the most challenging earthquake resistance design. Despite all these difficulties, the project team managed to complete the construction of five extra-large storage tanks within a span of only 18 months.
The Phase II project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2024. By then, the Jinwan "Green Energy Port" will become the largest natural gas storage and transportation base in the southern region of China, with an annual processing capacity of up to 7 million tons, equivalent to approximately 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas. This capacity will enable the generation of around 50 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 33.52 million tons, equivalent to planting 70 million trees.
(更多新闻资讯,请关注羊城派 pai.ycwb.com)
